Hello Kitty Sweets Cafe

One of the highlights of our Taiwan trip. We went to the Hello Kitty Sweets Cafe in Taipei (near the Zhongxiao Fuxing station) the day of the storm and like most stores, it was closed. When we went there the following day, we had to wait for almost two hours to get a table. But Pia and I just walked around the nearby malls to pass the time. After making our reservation (5:30pm) we took pictures first outside the cafe before it got dark.

When we entered the cafe, what greeted us were display cases full of very cute and very yummy looking HK cakes.

Of course, sister and me had to take pictures of every spot in the cafe. It was overwhelmingly pink and kawaii. This is on the second level of the cafe.

We got seated at the booth we really wanted, the ones with Hello Kitty head sofas. We had a hard time understanding the menu though. the waitress (who was wearing a very cute French maid uniform in pink) was patient enough and we were able to choose which cakes we wanted. it was a bit expensive but since it was the experience really you were paying for, for me it was worth it. there were also main courses served at the cafe like pasta and burgers but we had a late lunch so we just opted for desert. Our orders finally arrived. Mine was an oreo-brownie type with a cafe latte.

It was hard to eat something so cute and we stalled a little bit before eating Kitty. Hehe. I was envious of Pia's strawberry decorated cake, i tried to steal it. LOL.

Before leaving, we went to the bathroom and we couldn't resist having pictures taken too. Good thing there were no one else inside, just me and Pia. The outside part was pretty cute as well.

I wanted to buy a cake home but Pia said it might get ruined on the plane ride back to Manila so I just had to be content with what I saw and what was in my tummy.

I wanna go back. :)

Visiting Taiwan - Touchdown in Taipei

I almost backed out of seeing Taipei. My editing sideline stopped sending documents which threw me off my budget. With a little help from some angels, I was finally able to scrape something up to enjoy the trip with some friends from ABS-CBN and my sister.

The main agenda of the trip was to visit the Hello Kitty Hotel in Kaoshiung and of course the Hello Kitty Sweets Cafe in Taipei. However, the schedule changed because of a typhoon! Our Cebu Pacific flight arrived in Taiwan at around 12:30am, a bit earlier than expected. It was a shakey landing because of the typhoon and the taxi we rode to Taipei was zooming through the empty streets. Probably scared to get caught in the deluge.

The airport was being renovated, we sort of found it just so-so. Boy band Farenheit was this season's celebrity ambassadors for Taiwan. Some years ago it was F4. :)

We stayed at Keyman's Hotel (No.1, Huaining St. , Zhongzheng District, Taipei ), near the Taipei Main Station. It was a decent hotel. We had to transfer rooms 3x though because of late bookings and complications because of the storm but their staff was friendly and patient with us. Here's the first room we stayed in, it fit 7 people all in all. We watched the weather news on the big flat screen TV.

My sister and I didn't eat dinner so we were hungry when we got to the hotel. Since everything was closed due to the storm, we just dropped by the friendly Family Mart next door. We bought an egg salad, Hello Kitty cupcakes (of course), a not-so-yummy bun, a bottle of Minute Maid Pomelo and mineral water. We didn't notice bottled water was free at the hotel.

We were all hoping the storm would just pass or disappear quietly but it was a real big one. A few hours later we woke up and we knew, our schedule for the day will have to be redone. The view outside our hotel at around 10AM. It was pretty dreary and windy day. So what did we do on our first day in Taiwan? Will tell you in my next post :)

Another attempt at Hello Kitty Food

Noticed that some of the stuff I bought from Lyn were about to expire so I decided to cook it for my test subjects name Randy and Pia. First I tried the Hello Kitty Microwaveable Chocolate Cake. Since the instructions were in Japanese, I had to guess approximately what the recipe was. Got milk, mixed the stuff then placed it in the microwave...after a minute, I could smell it burning! Gah! I took it out and it was as hard as a rock (but still very cute). My willing victim for the day(Randy) still ate it though. Para daw cookie instead of being a cake.

I made the Hello Kitty Pudding/Flan the next day. Made another mistake by assuming it's like leche flan and placed the sauce into the molds first (after na pala dapat) so my Kitties ended up looking sunog hahahaha... Pia didn't like the taste much but again my willing victim, Randy ate it all up.

I have still one more box of each to perfect things mwahahahah...
